Meaningful Ways to Include Your Favourite People in Your Margaret River Wedding Ceremony

One of the questions I love helping couples answer is, "How can we include the important people in our ceremony?"

The answer is almost always...in ways that are far more meaningful than simply asking someone to do a reading.

Whether you're getting married at a Margaret River winery, on the beach or beneath the forest canopy, there are countless ways to make your favourite people feel part of your day.

Here are a few ideas:

  • Walk down the aisle together with a parent, both parents, grandparent, your children - or each other. Perhaps you want to to the traditional thing and walk down the aisle with Dad, but want Mum to have her moment in the spotlight too? Send her down the aisle at the very beginning, accompanied or alone, carrying her own special bouquet.

  • Invite someone to take part in a ceremony ritual, such as tying the cords during a handfasting, warming your wedding rings, or helping with a unity ceremony. It's a beautiful way to honour someone special while giving them a meaningful role in your day.

  • Choose meaningful witnesses, not just the first people who come to mind.

  • Include your children by inviting them to present the rings, stand with you during your vows or be acknowledged as part of your growing family.

  • Give someone a surprise role, like secretly carrying the witness pen in a bouquet or unexpectedly presenting the rings.

  • Include your dog (if your venue allows!) because, let's be honest, they're family too.

  • Present a flower from your bouquet to a parent, grandparent or someone who has quietly supported you along the way.

  • Take a moment to acknowledge loved ones who can't be with you, with a few heartfelt words woven naturally into the ceremony.

The most memorable ceremonies aren't the ones with the most traditions - they're the ones filled with thoughtful moments that genuinely reflect your relationships.

This is seriously one of my favourite parts of planning a ceremony. Couples often tell me they want to include their favourite people but aren't quite sure how. Together, we come up with ideas that are personal, unexpected and uniquely yours. It's those little moments that turn a beautiful ceremony into one your family and friends will still be talking about for years to come.
